Sr. Aasiya (Zubair) Hassan (co-founder of Bridges TV) was murdered on February 13,2009 allegedly by her husband Muzzamil Hassan. The couple founded Bridges TV together. He spoke very highly of her in public however deep inside there was something brewing. Only Allah knows for sure. There had been reports of domestic disputes,etc.
In her memory and that of the other Muslim victims of domestic abuse (two are men) who have been murdered and all other victims wear a purple/lavender hijab, kufi, cap or tie on that day. Lavender/Purple is the official color or domestic violence awareness advocacy.
Please request that in your community domestic abuse education to include sexual assault awareness become a priority, insh'Allah. This is such a simple and easy thing to do. Very effortless. However acting in unity will send a strong message for progress in our communities.
